Butler University Honors Former Area Resident Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson

INDIANAPOLIS—The Butler University Alumni Association has presented its Robert Todd Duncan Alumnus Achievement Award to U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson, a former resident of the Mt. Prospect, Ill., area. Magnus-Stinson is a 1979 cum laude graduate of Butler University, where she received a bachelor's degree in French. She now lives in Indianapolis.

President Barack Obama appointed Magnus-Stinson as U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Indiana in 2010, following her three years' service as magistrate judge for the Southern District.

She was appointed, and then twice elected judge of the Marion Superior Court Criminal Division (1995-2007). As supervising judge of the Marion Superior Probation Department (1997-2001), she helped create a volunteer mentoring program for young offenders.

She has also served as deputy chief of staff and counsel to Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh, and was in private law practice.

Magnus-Stinson received the award on May 4. Presented to an alumnus whose class graduated at least 15 years prior, it recognizes personal and/or professional achievement which brings honor and distinction to the University and individual attainment and/or contributions for the betterment of society.
