DeWyze's blanks on Niagara Falls question on Ellen's show

Is Lee DeWyze nervous about his final week on "American Idol?"

Um, a little.

On Monday, he joined fellow finalist Crystal Bowersox on Idol Judge Ellen DeGeneres' show and was asked which two countries border Niagara Falls - and he was given Canada.

"What's that?" said DeWyze as the camera zoomed on his face.

DeGeneres repeated the question, but it didn't help.

"Oh my god," he said while Bowersox laughed and said "Lee, are you serious?"

Finally, DeGeneres helped him out with the answer, "the United States."

"It doesn't matter, you're pretty," she added.

She's right. DeWyze isn't competing on "America's Next Brain Surgeon" after all.

"I'm nervous, the wording, I didn't get it," DeWyze said laughing and shaking his head.

But the Mount Prospect native had a pretty good Sunday to make up for blanking on the Niagara Falls question. On "The Simpsons" a character was caught holding a sign that read "Vote for Lee - It's 'DeWyze' choice!"

Brian Friedopfer snapped a photo of the sign and sent it to DeWyze's phone that night.

"His response was 'OMG, that's amazing'," according to Friedopfer.

Meanwhile, DeWyze's friends and family are traveling to Los Angeles to support his biggest week on Idol yet.

His former teacher, Amy Silverman, left on Monday with his friend, Vince Ferrara.

"Exactly a year ago today, Lee was performing at my friend's 50-year birthday party in Northbrook," Silverman said Monday. "I mean, wow, he has come a long way in one year."

DeWyze and Bowersox will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday on American Idol. The winner will be announced Wednesday.
