Mount Prospect man charged with forgery

A Cook County judge on Friday set bail at $25,000 for a Mount Prospect man who prosecutors say used a credit card belonging to his wife’s employer to pay for a storage unit and make online purchases.
Police charged Mercury V. Carreon, 31, with forgery and unlawful use of a credit card after the owner of Sherwood Inn & Jacuzzi Suites discovered unauthorized purchases in the amount of $2,478.48 and alerted authorities, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine.
Prosecutors say Carreon also faces domestic battery charges stemming from an incident in which his wife observed a bruise on the face of their 4-year-old son. The boy claimed Carreon hit him, authorities said.
Carreon next appears in court on June 21.
