The Kirk Players will present “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Scott Davidson Saturdays, Dec. 3 and 10, and Sundays, Dec. 4 and 11, at 2 p.m. at The Cuneo Mansion and Gardens on Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills.
The troupe will also perform the show at Libertyville Masonic Temple at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18.
“We are very excited to add this holiday production to our 46th season. It has been a joy working on this show,” said Paddy Lynn, artistic director for the Kirk Players and director for this show.
“The entire ensemble has fallen in love with this magical story. I’m certain our audience will be even more touched experiencing this play in our special venues.”
Based on the beloved children’s book by Margery Williams, the story centers on a little girl who receives a stuffed velveteen rabbit for Christmas. The rabbit is shunned by many of the more expensive toys in the nursery so he befriends a stuffed skin horse who explains what it means to be “real.”
The girl’s love for the bunny makes the bunny real and so he is able to overcome all of his fears.
The talented ensemble is made up of Kirk Player members and guests. The cast consists of Sara Gunther, Dave Kennebeck, Marilee CC Wald, Franny Pollack, Marshall Kious, Payton Cousins and Mary Jo Pippenger.
Providing the technical expertise is Taz Fritz, Lisa Soare, Mike Lieberman and Brenda Sparks. Assisting Lynn as assistant director is Gretchen Grassl and providing stage managing duties is Sheila Bourque.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. Space is limited, so call for tickets today at (847) 521-6192. Visit www.kirkplayers.org for details.
