Defendant receives 15 years for Streamwood shooting
A Hanover Park man pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for what police described as a gang-related shooting in April 2010 near an outdoor basketball court in Streamwood.
Jose Hernandez, of the 2000 block of Burr Oak Lane, was driving in the area of Club Tree Drive and Valley Lane and thought he recognized the victim — who was playing basketball — as a rival gang member, police said shortly after the shooting.
The victim was wounded in the thighs, forearm and hands.
Hernandez received credit for the 418 days he has spent in custody since his arrest. He must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
