UL names president of Product Safety Business unit

Northbrook-based Underwriters Laboratories named Benjamin J. Miller president of the UL Product Safety Business.

Miller will join UL in early June, bringing a background in international management as well as extensive experience accelerating growth and innovation, the companyb said in a statement.

Miller comes to UL from Cummins Inc., where he has held several senior roles over the past seven years, most recently as the global Managing Director for Cummins Generator Technologies, a $900 million global division that serves the power generation industry. Miller led the business to record sales and profits, while accelerating its entry into several new businesses.

“Ben comes to UL as a seasoned global executive who can help us continue our exciting journey into our second century,” said UL CEO Keith Williams. “His proven success in leading innovative, technology-driven global businesses, combined with his strong leadership development skills, makes him an excellent fit with UL and will help ensure our company remains the world’s leader in advancing safety.”

Prior to joining Cummins, Miller served as a Pprtner and managing director at Monitor Group, a leading worldwide strategy consulting and private equity group. Previously, Miller spent six years with Sweetheart Cup and American Industrial Partners, where he led the organization to step-order improvements in innovation, profitability and customer satisfaction.

Ben earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and computer science from Williams College and a master of business administration and master of science in engineering from Stanford University.

The largest of UL’s business units, Product Safety provides safety testing, certification services for global market access, pre-certification review, and inspection services to maintain certification for the following types of products: industrial, consumer, components and materials, building materials and systems, and security systems.
