Buffalo Grove show choir concludes successful season

The Expressions, Buffalo Grove High School’s award-winning show choir, recently concluded another successful competition season.

In January, the Expressions competed at the Mt. Zion Invitational in Decatur, winning first runner-up and Best Band. The group’s second competition was at the DeKalb Show Choir Invitational in Auburn, Ind., where they secured another first runner-up award and Best Band.

Recently, the Expressions competed at the Chicagoland Showcase at John Hersey High School, again winning first runner-up and also capturing Best Vocals.

The Expressions completed this year’s competition season at the Wheaton Warrenville South Show Choir Classic March 9, earning second runner-up honors.

Individually, members of the Expressions racked up a number of awards this season: junior Brian McCallister won Male Grand Champion in the individual solo competition at Mt. Zion, DeKalb and again at the Chicagoland Showcase; and senior Jessica Wolf was named Best Female Soloist in a Competition Show at both DeKalb and the Chicagoland Showcase.

The Expressions, a mixed show choir made up of 41 singer-dancers, 13 band members and four crew members, is directed by Debora Utley and choreographed by Randy Sage.
