District 220 buses delayed by closed roads
School buses serving Barrington Unit District 220 are dealing with many closed roads throughout the district’s 72 square miles Thursday morning — from North Barrington to South Barrington to Carpentersville.
In situations where buses have been unable to enter neighborhoods, drivers have been calling families individually, district spokesman Jeff Arnett said.
In some cases, families have been able to bring their children to alternate locations to meet the buses. In others, families were unable to get out themselves and reported their students absent.
As of 10 a.m., a few buses were still out collecting students, especially elementary students with the normally later starting time of 9 a.m. Some staff have also been running late with longer travel times from Chicago and elsewhere, Arnett said.
“It has definitely had an impact,” Arnett said of the rain and flood conditions in the area.
