One Hope UnitedThe Lake Villa-based social service agency Kids Hope United has changed its name to One Hope United. "For more than 100 years, our staff and board members have been dedicated to one cause, bringing hope of a safe and nurturing home for children," Chief Executive Officer Bill A. Gillis said in a statement. "This name better conveys our commitment to collaborating with communities to achieve results through a growing array of services, including advocacy for teenagers and young adults, mental health services for families, child development services and volunteer programs for seniors." The group also has a new Web address at onehopeunited.org.Ribfest teams neededLake Villa Township will host the Second Winter Fest on Saturday, Jan. 30, noon to 4 p.m., at Caboose Park, 37908 N. Fairfield Road, Lake Villa. A featured event will be a best ribs contest, and the township is looking for teams. The event is a fundraiser for the township food pantry. Ribs will be judged on appearance, taste and texture. There is also a "Peoples Choice Award" that goes to the team that raises the most money for the township food pantry. The judging is at 2 p.m. Ribs are provided by Tony's Butcher Shop of Grayslake. The tournament is Feb. 6, noon to 4 p.m., at the park district's Regent Center, 1200 Regent Drive (just off Crystal Street) in Mundelein. Registration cost is $10 ($15 with controller provided). Walk-ins are also welcome. A portion of proceeds from all registrations will go toward the Mundelein Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to area residents for programs such as summer camps, sports activities, nature, learning and more. For every can donated, $1 in fines will be erased. The promotion will run March 1-21.
