Wheaton North wants full ownership of DVC

Wheaton North (7-1, 6-0) felt a true thrill Friday night when its 27-17 victory over Glenbard North clinched a share of the program's first DuPage Valley Conference title since 2002.

The Falcons, though, aren't in the mood for sharing.

"We don't accept sharing the title," said Falcons quarterback John Peltz. "We accept first place, and that's what we're going to get. I believe in our team."

Standing in the way of the outright title for Wheaton North is an all-too-familiar foe: crosstown rival Wheaton Warrenville South (5-3, 5-1). The Tigers have won the last eight regular-season meetings and have lost to the Falcons only once, in 2002, since 1989.

After a season of unknowns in the DVC, the title comes down to Friday night at WW South. The Tigers can grab their own share of the title with a win, which would be their third straight DVC championship.

"They've come this close to finishing out the conference season without a loss," Wheaton North coach Joe Wardynski said of his team. "They're going to be real excited, I think, with a chance to beat a good Wheaton South team, something we obviously haven't done in a long time."
