Bartlett man suspected of multiple armed robberies

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is holding a Bartlett man while various suburban departments investigate his connection to local crimes.

Pawel D. Szymulewski, 19, last known to reside in the 200 block of Burton Drive, has so far been charged with armed robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a converted motor vehicle, all felonies related to South Elgin cases, according to police.

The South Elgin Police Department was called to assist Roselle police Sunday in apprehending Szymulewski, according to a South Elgin news release. The man got away during a foot chase Sunday, but a tip led police to a home in the 1100 block of Kane Street Monday, where Szymulewski was arrested, police said.

Police say they found a .22-caliber rifle in the home.

Detective Sgt. John Lawson, of the Roselle Police Department, said charges have not been filed against Szymulewski but are being discussed with the state’s attorneys office in connection to an armed robbery on Sunday.

The South Elgin robbery in which Szymulewski was charged took place Feb. 28 at the Marathon Gas Station on Route 25, police said.

Szymulewski is in custody awaiting bond call for his various charges.
