ECC'S African American Connection promotes student success and community support

On Thursday, Sept. 2, Elgin Community College will hold the fall African American Connection event both in-person and virtually from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Spartan Hub located in Building B.

Those wishing to participate virtually can do so via Zoom at tinyurl.com/aafallconnect.

The event is organized through the Office of Student Life and lead by Erik Enders, student life coordinator for student equity.

African American Connection develops and fosters a supportive, academically-engaged community of African-American students by connecting them with fellow peers, faculty, staff, and administrators committed to their success.

"Being connected to the ECC community is vital for our students' success. There is something about knowing that there is a community behind you, cheering you on and committed to your success. This revelation is what we hope students gain," said Enders. "We are excited to see students in person this year after being unable to gather for so long. We believe a fun, engaging, and enjoyable time awaits them."

At the event, students will have the opportunity to learn about on-campus resources, provide strategies for college success, and help create a support network of African American faculty, staff, and ECC Alumni.

The Connection will also allow students to identify a mentor for academic and professional guidance while enjoying music, giveaways, and community engagement.
