Grayslake North edges Central

Grayslake North boys soccer Adam DeCaluwe figured his Knights’ match with Grayslake Central would come down to which team capitalized on its chance.

“Fortunately,” DeCaluwe said, “we did.”

Sean Blashe finished a pass from Carson Klarck in the first half, and Grayslake North’s defense did the rest in a 1-0 win.

Grayslake North improved to 8-11 and 4-2 in the Fox Valley Fox Division, while Grayslake Central fell to 7-8 and 3-1.

“I thought we played OK at times, but again we struggled in the final third,” Rams coach Mike McCaulou said. “We had 12 corners, and when you don’t produce from set pieces and balls in the 6-yard box, things happen.”

DeCaluwe credited keeper Stevie Streeter for making some big saves in the second half.

“That seemed to build confidence in the rest of the team that Stevie was going to hold the shutout,” DeCaluwe said. “From that realization on, the rest of the team seemed to grow in confidence. They started to attack and play the way we had been in the first half.”

Streeter finished with 7 saves.
