Zaja to lead Hanover Twp. Dems
Gertrude "Trudy" Zaja, a 57-year-old Streamwood woman and a property assessment analyst for the Cook County Board of Review, has unseated incumbent Jim Steven Dasakis as Hanover Township Democratic Committeeman.
With 50 of 53 precincts reporting, Zaja got 1,651 votes, or 58 percent, compared to 1,194 votes, or 42 percent, for Dasakis, unofficial totals showed.
Dasakis, 44, of Hoffman Estates, served one 4-year term as committeeman. Zaja was endorsed by the Hanover Township Democrats and Independents organization.
A third candidate, Jason Provenzano of Bartlett, withdrew from the race.
