Hubble school air conditioning back up and running
The air-conditioning system at Hubble Middle School in Warrenville was fully operational Tuesday after getting off to a slow start the day before.
Several parents complained to Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 officials because they assumed the air conditioner at the 190,000-square-foot school wasn't turned on Monday when temperatures outside reached the 90s.
District 200 spokesman Robert Rammer said the air-conditioning system was on, but there were mechanical problems that prevented it from working properly. Rammer said those issues were resolved by Monday afternoon.
"They had tested it and had it up and running," Rammer said. "It was working. But when the system runs with such a high demand, I think there were some things that just didn't go the way they were planned to go and it kicked off. Then our people went in and worked on it and got it up and running yesterday afternoon."
District officials knew the high temperatures were coming when they tested the air-conditioning systems over the weekend in all 21 of the district's buildings.
Still, Rammer said, "Sometimes you get problems that you didn't anticipate until the temperature is 90 degrees."
Now that adjustments have been made, officials said Hubble's air-conditioning system is working fine. "It was running yesterday afternoon and it's running today," Rammer said.
