Northbrook Garden Club plant sale returns May 13-14

After a two-year hiatus, the ever-popular Northbrook Garden Club Plant Sale is back - bigger and better than ever.

With an emphasis on native plants and sustainable gardening, this year's sale will not only feature hundreds of native and perennial plants from members' own gardens but also will offer a large variety of native plants from local nursery supplier, Rebecca's Natives Ltd. The expanded selection of native plants reflects the growing interest throughout the community in using them for home landscaping to attract butterflies and support bees and birds.

Conservation and concern for the planet have always been a cornerstone of the Northbrook Garden Club. The club's Sustainable Garden Committee has made a great effort to help raise awareness of the need for sustainable practices in our everyday gardening as well as offering methods and ideas to make our gardens more earth-friendly. This year, members of the Sustainable Gardening Committee, as well as Go Green Northbrook and Conservation at Home will be on hand at the sale to offer advice and information for planning this year's garden.

Because garden club members are available, the sale is always a good place to learn about plant selection, soil preparation, where to locate certain plants, what thrives in areas that are shady or sunny, wet or dry; and general information useful to gardeners of all skill levels.

The Northbrook Garden Club Plant Sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 13, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Village Green Community Center, 1810 Walters Ave., across from St. Norbert Church. Credit card, cash and check accepted for payment. Come early for the best selection.
