CLC's Giving Tree breaks donation record

Every holiday season, College of Lake County (CLC) helps children in need by ensuring they receive at least two gifts through its Holiday Giving Tree. This year, the Giving Tree nearly doubled the donation record set in 2020 with 90 plus families helped and more than 400 gifts donated.

Donations to the Giving Tree, which started nearly 20 years ago, come from CLC staff and faculty. They sponsor children of CLC students and children at CLC's child care centers whose parents registered them. Gifts are bought off lists provided by the families.

For the first time, CLC held an event on campus where the children received their gifts. The college hosted Santa Dec. 8, where along with receiving gifts, children could take free pictures with Santa and enjoy milk and cookies.

"This is a great opportunity for CLC to connect with our community and our students who have children," said Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Gabe Lara. "Milk and Cookies with Santa allowed us to engage students, parents and their children and bring them on to campus."
