Elgin man gets probation for molesting boy at mental health center
An Elgin man has pleaded guilty to inappropriately touching a juvenile patient at a Streamwood mental health center.
A Cook County judge sentenced Jonathan C. Collantes, 38, to two years of sex offender probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender in exchange for his guilty plea last week to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony punishable by three to seven years in prison. Probation is also available.
Sex offender probation requires the defendant participate in a minimum of two years of counseling and adhere to a curfew, drug tests and polygraph tests among other requirements. The judge also ordered Collantes pay $1,315 in fines.
A video surveillance tape showed Collantes touching the victim in a recreational room at Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System on Dec. 8 while other children were present, police said. The tape also showed Collantes telling the other children to watch TV while he sat with the victim, police said.
A Department of Children and Family Services investigator told Streamwood police about the incident. An officer met with the boy, who confirmed that Collantes touched him, police said. The boy later identified Collantes in a photo lineup, authorities said.
Police say Collantes was fired from the mental health center. Representatives from the center did not return calls seeking confirmation of Collantes’ termination.
