Rolling Meadows times it right at Buffalo Grove
It's safe to say Rolling Meadows very much enjoyed its first visit to Buffalo Grove's new pool, where the Mustangs claimed a 135-50 victory Friday to remain undefeated in Mid-Suburban East boys swimming.
The standout efforts for Meadows included a 59.30 in the 100-yard breaststroke from senior Jake Barson, along with a 2:02.56 in the 200 IM.
"He was beyond ecstatic," said Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta, referring to Barson's first sub-minute clocking in the breaststroke this season. "I think he really needed a swim like that."
Kuba Debkowski won the 50 free in a season-best 22.19, which is also on par with his lifetime best.
Barson and Debkowski joined Tim McDonough and Josh Dellorto for a season-best effort in the 200 free relay (1:31.62), and the medley relay of Filip Pancerz, Barson, Tony Sarussi and Debkowsk won in a season-best 1:41.39.
Other highlights for the Mustangs included lifetime bests from David Myers in the 100 free (51.91) and Jake Pors in the 500 free (5:11.65), and a season-best in the 100 back from Pancerz (57.77).
Buffalo Grove coach Jeff Skalon remains pleased with the progress within his own program. He counted a grand total of 48 personal bests from his group against the Mustangs, along with a victory at the frosh-soph level.
"Our guys knew Rolling Meadows was bringing in a very nice group," said Skalon, "but I liked the way they responded. This team is proving to be very good at persevering."
