How to help shape Mount Prospect's comprehensive plan

Mount Prospect on Thursday will hold the first of two community engagement events that are part of the village's process for updating its comprehensive plan for the first time in nearly a decade.

The open house takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert Frost Elementary School, 1308 S. Cypress Drive, Mount Prospect. A second open house is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at River Trails Middle School, 1000 N. Wolf Road, Mount Prospect.

Residents can stop by to participate in a mapping and visioning exercise that should take no more than 20 minutes. Children are also welcome, and there will be a special activity for them to participate in. Light refreshments will also be provided.

The comprehensive plan guides village decisions about important issues related to land use, transportation, services, recreation, and economic development. The village has undergone seven major comprehensive planning processes since the early 1960s. The current plan was last updated in 2007.

Led by the village's Community Development Department, the plan is a joint effort by a number of village departments and a community-based steering committee.
