Gregg takes in $2.8M, but has less cash on hand than Pence

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - John Gregg's gubernatorial campaign says the Democratic former state Houser speaker raised about $2.8 million over the past three months, fueling what could become one of the most expensive races in Indiana history.

Gregg's campaign released preliminary numbers Wednesday though they do not have to report their final totals until July 15.

A memo from Republican Gov. Mike Pence's campaign shows Pence took in about $2.6 million over the same time period. But Pence outraised Gregg if a substantial TV ad buy made by the Republican Governors Association is factored in, which pushes his total up to $4.1 million for the period.

Gregg campaign manager Tim Henderson says the ad buy amounts to an RGA bailout of Pence's campaign. He says without that, Gregg would have outraised Pence.
