Police: Shooting of Cumberland boy investigated as homicide

CUMBERLAND, Ind. (AP) - An Indianapolis-area police chief says the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy is being investigated as a homicide.

Cumberland Police Chief Michael Crooke made the declaration Thursday in the May 27 death of Anthony Harmon Jr. at an apartment complex in the community on the far east side of Indianapolis.

Crooke tells WISH-TV (http://bit.ly/1TYzLWe ) officers will meet with prosecutors Friday to discuss the case.

Officers said at the time the boy was found with a gunshot wound to his face in the kitchen of an apartment. Other people also were in the apartment.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

It wasn't immediately clear who fired the shot that struck the child.
