100+ Women Who Care of Will County donate $7,100 to DuPage County ACT-SO

On Thursday, June 29, members of 100+ Women Who Care of Will County had their "big check" presentation donating $7,100 to DuPage County ACT-SO.

Thomas Reed, chairperson ACT-SO; Dr. Leslie Ford, ACT-SO co-chairperson; and Wanda Parker, volunteer from DuPage County ACT-SO, were presented the checks by members of 100+ WWC of Will County.

Founded in 1978, ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics), is a yearlong program that was created to encourage high academic and cultural achievement among high school students of African descent.

The primary focus of the program is the development of projects for competition in categories in the areas of STEM, Business, Humanities, Performing Arts and Visual Arts.

"It takes a community to help students achieve their potential. This donation from 100+ Women Who Care of Will County provides that community support and goes a long way in helping our students strive for their goals," Reed said.

100+ Women Who Care of Will County is excited to be donating to DuPage County ACT-SO and helping high school students from our community.

Member Brenda Davis said, "For over 20 years, I have been a volunteer for DuPage County ACT-SO, even after my two children completed the program over ten years ago, I stayed because I believed in the benefits of the program beyond the classroom. It's been a blessing being a member of 100+ Women Who Care of Will County. Because of our donation the Will County students will receive assistance in preparing for college, mentorship and coaching in STEAM, Entrepreneurship and Humanities. We are upskilling our future generation!"

100+ Women Who Care of Will County is designed to make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of our community.

At each of the quarterly meetings 100+ WWC members nominate charities, three are chosen at random, and after a brief presentation, the members vote on which charity to support.

Once the winning charity is announced, everyone writes a $100 check, on the spot directly to that charity. Teams of two or four are welcome to join.

All charities nominated must be located in, and serve, Will County and must have 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. 100+ Women of Will County of Will County has raised over $156,800 for local charities.

100+ Women Who Care of Will County's next meeting is Sept. 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Coom's Corner. For more information, go to the website at www.100wwc-will.org or visit us on Facebook.
