District 73 names new principal

Jill Martin has been named principal of Hawthorn School for Young Learners, Hawthorn Elementary District 73 announced Friday. The district's new kindergarten building is under construction on Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills. Martin, a Buffalo Grove resident, has been principal of District 73's Elementary South school, a kindergarten through fifth-grade building with 700 students, for the past 15 years. She led Elementary South through the yearlong process to be named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. She will transfer to her new duties at the end of this school year.
