Laschen Center demolition in Vernon Hills expected April 11
Demolition of the Laschen Center in Vernon Hills is expected to begin April 11 and take about 60 days to complete, village officials say.
The first steps in the project will be to install tree protection, safety fencing and silt fence. Demolition activities will be conducted off Evergreen Drive.
After the building materials are removed, the site will be backfilled with soil and a grass turf established. The village is expected to eventually turn the site into a park.
The building is named for Larry Laschen, who was hired as police chief in 1973 and retired in 1998 as village manager. It opened in the late 1950s as the clubhouse for the Tally Ho Country Club and subsequently was used as village hall, park district headquarters and a community meeting place.
