The absurdities of political promises
Here we go again; it seems like just yesterday we were being bombarded with political election rhetoric. Now, with over a year to go before the next presidential election the wannabes are rolling out their promises with tantalizing ideas like universal health care, green deal and infrastructure repair. Not to mention saving Social Security. Estimates of costs range in the trillions. And who's going to pay? Why, millionaires and billionaires, of course. They will gladly pay for everybody else's share of the pie. LOL.
While mentioning absurdities - here's another one; gun control. Ah yes, the low hanging fruit of all political pundits. If only we could disarm the American people, violence would end. The hundred thousand gangbangers in Chicago thank you.
We need to think long and hard when developing a strategy for improving the lives of our citizen/taxpayers. Demand full accountability from the pie-in-the sky wannabes. The president continues to outline a way forward with demanding fair trade agreements, protection of intellectual property rights, border security and a host of economic improvements.
Most of which is being done without a bipartisan effort. Both dominant political parties have consistently placed party ideology above the good of the nation. Major obstacles to the safety of humanity loom on the horizon. To overcome these obstacles we need all of our elected representatives to work in concert to find viable, cost-effective solutions. They can start with a simple idea - term limits. Watch them squirm when you ask them to support that concept. Two terms is all a president gets; why should Congress be any different?
