Humanitarian Service Project takes aim at hunger

The Humanitarian Service Project of DuPage County's second annual bowling fundraiser, HSP Bowl: Strike Against Hunger, aims to help the organization fight food insecurity among children, seniors and families.

Strike Against Hunger is 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Fox Bowl, 1101 Butterfield Road, Wheaton. The event will include a raffle, a pizza buffet and three games of "Scotch bowling," in which partners alternate throws throughout the game.

Strike Against Hunger is focused on raising funds and awareness for the programs the Humanitarian Service Project operates to assist low-income seniors, children and families in DuPage and Kane counties.

Proceeds will support local communities suffering from hunger through the agency's Senior Citizen Project, Feed the Kids, and Christmas Offering programs. The recipients of these programs receive nutritional support - including fresh produce, meat, bread, and nonperishables - to combat food insecurity.

The organization distributes more than 115 tons of groceries to low-income residents of DuPage and Kane counties every year.

Tickets, $25, must be purchased by Friday, Sept. 23. Children younger than 6 are free. For information or tickets, visit humanitarianservice.org or call (630) 221-8340.
