Glenview Connect meeting

Scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Glenview village hall, there will be an orientation meeting to review Glenview Connect code updates to the village's Downtown Development District.

The presentation will answer what is Form-Based Code and provide an overview of existing Downtown District requirements and recommended updates based on the Glenview Connect Downtown Strategic Plan process.

Following this meeting, the Glenview New Development Commission will host public open houses to get public feedback and will conduct public hearings during regular commission meetings to review the proposed code updates for consideration by the village board.

People may still provide feedback and comments on the Glenview Connect website, www.glenviewconnect.com.

Hot fun

Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook is hosting a summer concert featuring Tributosaurus from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie.

The concert will help support Youth Services' efforts to provide mental health support for area children and their families.

Tributosaurus is so named because the band plays the music of a wide variety of artists, from Parliament-Funkadelic to Van Morrison to Genesis. For the Youth Services' event, Tributosaurus will play the music of Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and people are invited to bring chairs and tables for their enjoyment. A cash bar will be available. Should it rain, the concert will be moved inside.

Tickets start at $50. Sponsorship opportunities from $150 to $5,000 also are available. For information and tickets, visit www.ysgn.org; the Summer Concert notice scrolls on the landing page.

Leadership workshop

Advance notice

Another Glenview Chamber event is happening on Sept. 8 - a special Business After Hours session to celebrate 2020 business person and business of the year. Since COVID-19 canceled in-person gatherings earlier this year, the retirement of former chamber director Betsy Baer will be recognized during this event.

Craig Solomon, executive director of Wesley Child Care Center, was named the chamber's 2020 business person of the year. Acknowledging the partnerships to persevere through the pandemic, the business of the year was shared by several entities: Wesley Child Care Center, NorthShore Glenbrook Hospital, Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, Northfield Township, the Village of Glenview and the Glenview Park District, and Family Service Center.

This event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 8 at Johnny's Kitchen & Tap, 1740 N. Milwaukee Ave. Registration is required, but it's free to Glenview Chamber members and, for this event, one guest.

Visit business.glenviewchamber.com/events and select "Calendar" from among the choices at the top. Forward to September and the "Special Business After Hours" entry will lead to a description with registration.

Incidentally ...

It's official. The Glenview Chamber of Commerce announced that Meghan Kearney is the chamber's new executive director after four years with the organization.

Recruitment is her forte, as even during the COVID-19 pandemic she increased chamber membership.

Previously she worked for The Irvine Company in California, working with a hiring team charged with filling 1,000 openings for a premiere hotel. She also worked for the Tribune Company as a recruiter for corporate positions in accounting, building security and office services. Kearney studied communications at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
