No injuries in Vernon Hills fire

The Countryside Fire Protection District is investigating the cause of a minor fire Wednesday at a house on the 0-100 block of Monterey Drive in Vernon Hills. No smoke or fire was showing when firefighters arrived at the two-story single-family house about 8 a.m. A fire in the kitchen area was under control and extinguished quickly, firefighters said. Two residents left before firefighters arrived and were checked for minor smoke inhalation but no injuries were reported. No damage estimate was available but the structure was uninhabitable, firefighters said. Countryside was assisted by Mundelein, Libertyville, Lincolnshire Riverwoods, and Knollwood fire departments and the Vernon Hills Police.
