Schaumburg names new deputy fire chief

Schaumburg Fire Capt. Dan Johnson has been promoted deputy chief of the fire department, succeeding Bill Spencer, who is retiring after 12 years in the position and more than 35 years with the department.

Johnson has been in the fire service since 1992, joining the Schaumburg department in 1998. He worked his way up through the ranks to shift commander and worked in all five village fire stations.

Lt. John Schneidwind, a 28-year veteran of the department, has been promoted to captain to fill Johnson's prior role.

Prior to his retirement, Spencer was instrumental in the development of multiple comprehensive response plans, adjustments in response due to the tollway reconstruction project, as well as advancements in emergency medical equipment and policies.
