Free flu shot clinics open in West Chicago
Drive-through clinics in West Chicago will provide up to 1,000 free flu shots before the Thanksgiving holiday as health experts warn of a flu season colliding with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Healthy West Chicago and WeGo Together for Kids have partnered with Northwestern Medicine, Jewel-Osco, Walgreens and other organizations to provide up to 1,000 free flu shots to West Chicago residents between the ages of 3 and 64.
A Friday clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon at Wegner Elementary School at 1180 Marcella Lane.
Pediatric clinics for kids ages 3 and up will be available from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday and again Nov. 21, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 155 W. Prince Crossing Road.
Aspen Ridge Apartments will host a clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 16, in the parking lot near the main entrance of the complex at 1440 S. Neltnor Blvd.
No appointments are necessary. Most insurance is accepted with no co-pay or deductible. There will be no charge for those without insurance.
With rare exception, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu vaccine for anyone 6 months and older.
