'Civic awareness' programs at Cantigny Park

Three programs at Wheaton's Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, will focus on themes of civic awareness and will encourage local participation in the democratic process.

The series, initiated in 2017, is presented in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Wheaton and recommended for young adults and adults.

• Illinois Politics Today with Rick Pearson is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Visitors Center Theater.

Pearson, Chicago Tribune chief political reporter and host of WGN Radio's "Sunday Spin," will discuss the current state of Illinois politics.

• An Evening with DuPage County Board Members is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the McCormick House.

Tim Elliot, Jim Zay and Mary FitzGerald Ozog will discuss issues facing DuPage, including government consolidation, affordable housing, transportation and the county's strategic plan.

• Civil Conversations is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in the McCormick House.

John Gable will discuss media bias and how it affects consumers of news. He is CEO of AllSides.com, a website that examines and rates news source bias.

Gable also is a partner in Living Room Conversations, an organization designed to increase understanding, reveal common ground and discuss possible solutions to controversial issues.
