Northbrook in 60 seconds
Congratulations, Kate and Linda!
Two staff members from the Northbrook Public Library have been honored by the Illinois Library Association.
Executive Director Kate Hall was named Illinois Librarian of the Year and Linda Vering, marketing and communications manager, received the Deborah Dowley Preiser Marketing Award. The awards ceremony honoring the recipients will be held virtually during this year's conference in October.
The Illinois Library Association is a not-for-profit educational and professional membership organization that represents nearly 3,000 Illinois public, academic, school, and special libraries as well as librarians, library staff, trustees, students, library vendors and the millions who depend on them. Founded in 1896, it is the third-largest state library association and a chapter of the American Library Association.

In memory of Miles Thompson
A GoFundMe started for the family of Miles Thompson has passed its $10K goal, thanks to generous donors who wanted to show their support for the family during this time. Thompson, a 2020 graduate of Glenbrook North, was a 19-year-old athlete tragically killed while visiting his father in Chicago. Thompson "was an inspiration and a role model to everyone," the GoFundMe reads. "Whether it's on the football field or off. Miles is a brother to us all, and his presence cannot and will not be forgotten. He is still here with all of us in our hearts." Climate Action Plan
The Northbrook Village Board meeting on July 27, starting at 7:30 p.m., will conduct a public hearing on the draft Climate Action Plan (CAP).
The draft CAP came by a board-directed collaboration of 30 community stakeholders, plus environmental consultant paleBLUEdot, to increase sustainability and reduce villagewide greenhouse gas emissions 35% by 2030 and 80% by 2040.
The Climate Action Plan is available to viewing on the village website, www.northbrook.il.us, under the "Living & Visiting" heading.
At the July 27 meeting members of the public are invited to speak, or for those who cannot attend in the Village Hall "Sandy" Frum Board Room, they may share comments by emailing Tessa.Murray@northbrook.il.us. The meeting also may be seen on NCTV Channel 17 or in a livestream. Information is available on the Village of Northbrook website landing page.

Shabbat Service
Join Bnai Chai's havurah on Zoom to celebrate Shabbat from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. July 23. Led by Rabbi Jonathan Ginsburg, the service is joyful and participatory, in Hebrew and English, with much singing. We also learn and discuss religious, cultural and contemporary subjects important to our community (and ban partisan politics). Bnai Chai is a Jewish friendship circle - not a congregation, and not affiliated with any formal movement - that meets regularly for services and social gatherings. Contact bnaichai@gmail.com for more information and a Zoom link.
