Ex-Blackhawk Scuderi finally found home with L.A. Kings

Few players probably have ever had a stranger season than ex-Penguin, ex-Blackhawk, ex-IceHog and current L.A. Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi.

To wit:

• The 37-year-old began the 2015-16 campaign playing in Pittsburgh, then was traded to the Hawks on Dec. 14 for Trevor Daley.

• Scuderi appeared in 17 games for the Hawks, failing to register a point and was a minus-6, so the team assigned him to Rockford after he cleared waivers.

• Then, near the trade deadline, Scuderi was shipped off to the Kings for Christian Ehrhoff.

"It's a little frustrating," said Scuderi, who was on the ice for 23:35 of the Kings' 5-0 victory over the Hawks on Monday night at the United Center. "But what can you do? I think the toughest thing is having your family bounce around behind you. I can handle the hockey part. It's not the ideal situation, but I can handle it."

Scuderi played for the Kings from 2009-13, winning a Stanley Cup with them in 2012. He admitted Monday that it's a better fit in L.A. than it was in Chicago.

"I don't think that's criminal to say," Scuderi said. "I'm not going to be the first player in professional sports that maybe wasn't a fit in one place. It's OK to admit that, and I'm glad that each party can move on."

Welcome back II:

Like Rob Scuderi, former Blackhawks winger Kris Versteeg was on the move at the trade deadline, going from Carolina to Los Angeles. Versteeg is now skating for a Kings team that eliminated his Hawks in seven games during the 2014 postseason.

"It's not too strange," he said. "It's more of an exciting time for me."

Versteeg, who has 12 goals and 23 assists, said he enjoyed his time with the Hurricanes but knew he'd be on the move.

As for giving the Kings any pointers on beating the Hawks?

"You get asked about that and I know their system pretty much inside and out," Versteeg said. "But the thing is everyone has video and watches video, so they know what they're doing as well."

Slap shots:

Jonathan Toews has points in 11 of the last 16 games (5G, 8A). … The Hawks agreed on a two-year contract extension with defenseman Viktor Svedberg that will run through the 2017-18 season. Svedberg, currently playing in Rockford, has appeared in 19 games with the Hawks this season. … Dennis Rasmussen, Richard Panik and Christian Ehrhoff were the Hawks' healthy scratches Monday.
