Boomers struggle early, fall to Beach Bums

The Schaumburg Boomers fell behind early and couldn't recover as they dropped the opener of a 3-game series 10-4 Tuesday night.

Traverse City sent 11 batters to the plate in the first, scoring 6 runs on 2 hits. The Boomers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on a 2-run double from All-Star Paul Kronenfeld and an RBI single from fellow All-Star Mark Nelson.

The Beach Bums added one in the second and three in the third to make it a 10-3 game. Nick Oberg notched his first professional extra-base hit with an RBI double in the fourth to complete the scoring for the game.

Kurt Lipscomb came in with one out in the first and pitched 6⅔ innings. Lipscomb allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out three. The 6⅔ innings performance is the longest from a Boomers relief pitcher this season.
