Mount Prospect police chief put on leave

Mount Prospect Police Chief Tim Janowick was placed on administrative leave Friday, but Village President Arlene Juracek said she and her fellow village officials cannot comment on the reasons why.

"I'm not at liberty to say," Juracek said. "There are certain HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and privacy rules that come into play."

She added that those same rules also prevent her from even saying whether the situation is expected to be temporary or brief.

The only fact she could volunteer is Deputy Chief of Field Operations Mike Eterno had been appointed interim chief during Janowick's absence.
