Developer expands plans for hotel in downtown South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A developer has announced plans to build a bigger Marriott hotel than originally planned next to the site of the former College Football Hall of Fame.
The South Bend Tribune reports (bit.ly/21L1o6P ) that plans now call for a $12 million to $14 million hotel with 140 rooms and ground-floor retail space. JSK Development had originally planned to build a $10 million to $12 million Courtyard by Marriott on the block with 120 rooms.
The city's Redevelopment Commission last week agreed to contribute an additional $500,000. That added amount increases the city's investment in the project to $1.2 million, or 8 to 10 percent of total cost.
JSK plans to break ground on the project in June with a completion date of summer 2017.
