Streamwood police receive grant for search-and-rescue drone

As one of 25 recipients of a Powering Safe Communities grant, the Streamwood Police Department will acquire a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera and high-resolution zooming camera to assist in the rescue of people who go missing with endangering and life-threatening risk factors.

The annual grant program, in which recipients can receive up to $10,000 each, is funded by a partnership between ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.

This year's $170,000 of grant money went to northern Illinois municipalities, most often to their police or fire departments. The money is planned to be used in a variety of ways among the 25 communities.
