Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk suggested Donald Trump "back off" criticizing the Muslim parents of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed by a bomb in Iraq and whose father delivered an emotional speech at last week's Democratic National Convention. Attorney general: Naperville cops should turn over dashcam footage

The Illinois attorney general's Public Access Bureau has ruled in favor of the Daily Herald regarding the release of documents and dashcam videos related to allegations a Naperville police officer tried to use his squad car to run down a protester. Naperville city attorneys denied the Freedom of Information Act request, arguing that releasing the information would stand in the way of Lisle resident Donald Pritchard receiving a fair trial. Pheasant Run will 'continue to evolve' after airport dispute

The future of St. Charles' iconic Pheasant Run will be anchored by stores, rather than homes. After the DuPage Airport Authority filed a condemnation lawsuit, both parties reached a loose agreement that will keep all the property that functions as a resort in the current owner's control. Jerome F. Cataldo, CEO of Hostmark Hospitality Group, said work will now continue with an eye toward placing shopping on the far northwest corner of the property. Full story.

Naperville man admits lying to immigration authorities

A Naperville man pleaded guilty yesterday to lying to U.S. immigration officials about his past membership in the Chinese Communist Party when he was seeking citizenship here, federal authorities said. Lu Lin, 59, reported on his application for naturalized citizenship that he had never used other names and had never been a member of the Communist Party, though prosecutors said that was false. Des Plaines police find burglary suspect in Chicago

A man wanted in connection with a residential burglary in Des Plaines, retail thefts in the Chicago area and on several warrants in Wisconsin was apprehended in Chicago, authorities said yesterday. Des Plaines police said Daniel Patrykus, 20, took several thousand rounds of ammunition and several firearms from the residence in Des Plaines. Full story.

Naperville man accused of vehicle burglaries

A Naperville man was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with vehicle burglaries in the area after family members called police. Nicholas S. Bavol, 20, was arrested just after 9 a.m. as he was leaving his parents' home. Full story.

Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato meet fans in Aurora

A flock of screaming teens waited for hours yesterday in the August heat to see Demi Lovato and fellow musician Nick Jonas during a brief appearance at the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora as a part of their Honda Civic Tour: Future Now. Although the appearance lasted only about 10 minutes, many of the hundreds of fans said it was worth the long wait just to get a close-up glimpse of the stars. It's all 'go' for Fowler, Cubs in win

Dexter Fowler and Willson Contreras helped spark the Cubs to a 3-2 victory last night against the Miami Marlins. Fowler opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple to the right-field corner, and he came home on a single by Contreras. Fowler and Contreras had back-to-back singles in the third, with Fowler eventually scoring, and in the fifth, it was an RBI single for Fowler. Read Bruce Miles' take.

Tigers power past White Sox 11-5

White Sox pitcher James Shields held the Detroit Tigers scoreless for the first four innings, then got hit hard in the fifth, as the Tigers cruised past the Sox 11-5 last night. Full story.
