Des Plaines police find burglary suspect in Chicago

A man wanted for a residential burglary in Des Plaines, retail thefts in the Chicago area and on several warrants in Wisconsin was apprehended in Chicago, authorities said Tuesday.

Daniel Patrykus, 20, was charged with residential burglary in the break-in that occurred during the day Sunday, July 24, on the 1100 block of Walter Avenue in a residential neighborhood just west of downtown Des Plaines. He was also charged with possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of stolen property and retail theft, police said.

Des Plaines police said Patrykus took several thousand rounds of ammunition and several firearms from the residence in Des Plaines.

Patrykus was taken into custody by Des Plaines and Chicago police and FBI agents at 4:30 p.m. last Friday on the 6900 block of Laflin Street on Chicago's South Side after attempting to flee, authorities said.

He told police in an interview that he committed the burglary but no longer had the firearms, according to a news release. It said police recovered close to 5,000 rounds of ammunition and other proceeds from the burglary and retail thefts in the area.

Patrykus was also wanted on several warrants out of Wisconsin, on charges including escape, burglary, vehicle theft, retail theft, probation violations, and unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities said he would be extradited to Wisconsin after prosecution in Illinois.

He is in custody at the Cook County jail on $1,000 bail and is due in court Wednesday.
