Boomers rally over Crushers in extra innings
AVON, Ohio - The Schaumburg Boomers fell behind 4-0 in the first but rallied to take a 10-8 decision over the Lake Erie Crushers in 11 innings on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series.
Lake Erie held leads of 4-0 and 5-2, but the Boomers were able to take a 6-5 edge in the fourth on consecutive RBI-doubles from Mark Nelson and Mike McClellan as Schaumburg scored 2 runs in three straight innings. Lake Erie instantly tied the game and both teams notched unearned runs in the eighth before moving to extras. Following a scoreless 10th the international rule came into effect and Mikal Hill put Schaumburg ahead. Nick Oberg added a 2-run single to account for the final.
Brett Mabry started and worked 5 innings. Dexter Price tossed 2⅔ scoreless innings to notch the win while Kurt Lipscomb closed out the contest for his first career save. The Boomers finished with 12 hits in the contest. McClellan and Oberg each tallied three. Kenny Towns ran his hitting streak to nine games. Hill and Oberg each drove home three while Tillman Pugh scored three times.
