Traffic signals to go dark Sunday at busy Mount Prospect intersection
Traffic signals at the busy intersection of Rand Road, Route 83 and Kensington Road in Mount Prospect will go dark Sunday morning while the Illinois Department of Transportation replaces the traffic controller.
Work is expected to begin at 5 a.m. Sunday and take about five hours to complete. The new controller, which runs signal timing, will have modern equipment to better handle operations at the complex intersection, village officials said this week. It also will allow for installation of pedestrian crossing signals at the intersection later this summer.
Mount Prospect police will provide traffic control at the intersection while the traffic signals are dark. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during the five-hour period Sunday morning. If it is necessary to travel through the intersection, please exercise caution and follow the direction of the police officers.
