Terre Haute set to open pool saved from being shut down

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Officials in Terre Haute say a city pool is set to open in the coming days after a repair project that was undertaken to avoid leaving the community without any public swimming options.

Contractors have finished installing a new filtration system, concrete and roof at the Deming Park Pool. Parks Department operations director Billy Hubbard tells the (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/29wyo0T ) that the pool can open up once the water passes quality tests and warms up to about 78 degrees.

The $34,000 in repairs started after the parks board voted in May to reverse an earlier decision to close the pool because of declining attendance and growing maintenance costs. That would've left the city without any public pools for the first time in more than five decades.
