Lake County's Women's Residential Services program celebrates 30 years
The Women's Residential Services program celebrated its 30th anniversary Saturday.
The event included a tour of the facility at 24647 N. Milwaukee Ave. near Vernon Hills, a presentation by organization leaders, stories by WRS alumni and light snacks.
WRS, which is part of the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center, was established in 1986 through funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services' Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse and has provided services to 2,395 women and 1,204 children since its inception. WRS is a residential treatment program for chemically dependent women and their children. Priority is given to women who are pregnant, parents, or intravenous drug users.
Individualized treatment focuses on developing a chemical-free lifestyle through building recovery and resiliency skills, and improving parenting skills. Originally located on the top floor of Winchester House on Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, it moved to its present location in 1997.
