Enjoy the eggs-traordinary at Wheeling Park District in April

Stay ahead of the game and plan now for the warm weather months at the free, all-ages Summer Expo on Sunday, April 3. Come to the Community Recreation Center (CRC) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and learn about all the programs, activities and job opportunities available this summer. Get in on all the giveaways and discounts on select programs, too.

Thousands of eggs are yours for the taking at each of four hunts, tailored to specific age groups. The Friday Flashlight Egg Hunt is for kids, ages 5-10 years. Pre-register by April 6 (fee per person: $15 in-district/$20 out-of-district), and bring your flashlight and basket to the CRC on April 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. This Kids Night Out also includes pizza, games and bingo.

The preschool playground is the perfect venue for the Preschool Egg Hunt, for ages 1-3 years, on Saturday, April 9. Pre-register by 4/7 (fee per person: $2 in-district/$5 out-of-district) and choose one of three times (9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.). Bring a basket and your camera for a photo with the bunny before the hunt for candy- and toy-filled eggs starts.

Children, ages 2-6 years, are invited to hop on the turf field at Wheeling High School for fun and games at the free Spring Egg Scramble on Saturday, April 16, from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Bring a basket to collect the eggs and your camera for a photo with the bunny before the hunt for candy- and toy-filled eggs. Giveaway bags are available for the first 500 kids. The egg hunt starts promptly at 11 a.m. A refreshment table, provided by Rise n' Dine Café in Wheeling, will be available.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast spread and a visit with the Easter Bunny at the Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt at Chevy Chase Country Club on Sunday, April 17. Three seatings - 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. -. are available with egg hunts for kids, ages 2-12 years, at each seating. Prepaid reservations are required (fee per person: free/ages 0-5 years, $16.95/ages 6-17 years, $27.95/18 years+).

Celebrate Earth Day with the whole family at Heritage Park on Sunday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Take a nature walk, learn about all the beautiful wildlife in Wheeling, view live animals up close and plant seeds at the butterfly garden. Exhibitors are on hand at this free event to present information on the environment and offer suggestions and answer questions about how to make our planet a better place.

Those 55 years and older are invited to take part in several trips and activities during April. Test your luck at the Hollywood Casino on Thursday, April 7. Play 10 games of Bingo with prizes every round at the CRC on Wednesday, April 20, 1-3 p.m. Spend a delightful afternoon in downtown Geneva at the Little Traveler on Tuesday, April 26, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. After exploring the 33 exhibits, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. All of these programs require advance registration.
