Lake in the Hills to conduct special census
Lake in the Hills will conduct a partial special census in the coming months, which is expected to add at least 400 residents since the 2010 census, officials said.
With the added residents, the village expects to receive $56,880 yearly in additional revenues - each additional resident brings the village $142.20 in shared municipal revenues, according to the Illinois Municipal League.
The village board recently authorized an agreement with the U.S. Census Bureau to count four census blocks, including residents of The Residences of Lake in the Hills, The Villas of Lake in the Hills, and most of The Lakes of Boulder Ridge development. It will cost the village $72,899 - $50,154 goes to the bureau for administering the census and $22,745 will be used to hire part-time census takers, officials said.
The special census will take 10 months to complete, and the bureau will provide official population numbers by January 2017.
