Boomers lose 7-1 in Kentucky
LORENCE, Ky. - The Schaumburg Boomers suffered a 7-1 loss Thursday in the final game of a three-game stint in Kentucky against the Florence Freedom.
Schaumburg placed the first two batters of the game on base following a walk to Jordan Dean and a single from Argenis Aldazoro but did not score. Florence tallied a run in the second on a 2-out RBI single and broke the game open with 4 runs in the third. Starter Kagen Hopkins lasted just 4 innings, a season low. Hopkins was victimized for a season-high 7 runs, 6 earned.
Ken Knudsen spun 3 flawless innings out of the bullpen, striking out 4. Patrick Dolan twirled a scoreless ninth with 2 strikeouts. The Boomers managed just 6 hits in the game and struggled with only 3 runs and 18 hits in the series. Dean walked twice and drove home the only run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly while Mark Nelson drew 3 walks and also singled.
The Boomers (31-39) return home on Friday night with LHP Gunnar Kines (3-4, 3.66) on the mound in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
