Boys volleyball: Palatine finishes with MSL West win

Palatine's boys volleyball team wrapped up its slate of Mid-Suburban West games with a 25-23, 25-22 victory over visiting Conant on Tuesday.

Zach Wheat and Camden Hill led the attack for Palatine with 7 kills apiece, while Tristan Osterhues contributed 6 and Jake Boldog 4, along with 23 setting assists. Other key contributors for the Pirates included Andrew Padilla (10-for-10 serving) and Curtis McLennan (13 digs).

Palatine finished second in the MSL West with an 8-2 record.

Elk Grove d. Rolling Meadows: Brendon Rathman produced a team-high 10 kills as the host Grens won their finale 25-20, 25-22 in MSL East play. Connor Emmerich contributed 7 kills and Kevin Braceros had 6 kills, along with 12-for-13 serving with an ace.

John Duncker was 70-for-71 setting with 23 assists for the Grens, teammate Tom Sulima had a team-best 7 blocks and Anthony Prochenski had 19 digs.

Barrington d. Fremd: The Broncos posted a 25-21, 25-9 victory as TJ Murray (9 kills), Ethan Carroll (8), Joe Roeckell (4) and Andrew Gugulski (3) led the attack. Leading at blocks were Ethan Carroll and Murray with 3 apiece as Barrington completed MSL West play with a 10-0 record.

Matt Rowley (16 assists) and Jack Ridgway (11 assists) shared the setting duties for the Broncos while James Tiao (11), Justin Tiao (6) and Matt Rowley (4) led with digs.

Top contributors for Fremd (7-15 overall) included Pavel Warzecha and Matt Lebiedzinski (3 kills each), Patrick Kurka (12 digs) and Tyler Larson and Kaleb Scharman (4 assists apiece).

Prospect d. Wheeling: The host Knights outlasted the Wildcats 25-8, 30-32, 25-13 to complete both teams' MSL East schedules.

Liam Benson contributed a team-high 18 kills and 14 digs for Prospect, and teammate Scottie Baackes provided 36 setting assists.

Michael Lechowicz (9 kills), Tyler Larosa (5 kills), Sono Tsogtbaatar (4 kills), Matt Schiferl (23 digs) and Kyle Bagarella (16 assists, 3 kills) helped lead the Wildcats (6-25, 1-9).

Schaumburg d. Hoffman Estates: The visiting Saxons wrapped up MSL West action with a 25-18, 17-25, 25-23 victory over the Hawks.

Top producers for Hoffman Estates included Alan Zapinski (6 kills, 7 assists, 5 digs), Miguel Pineda (17-for-17 serving, 9 digs, 3 kills), T.J. Rogers (10 assists, 5 digs), Khalil Greaves (5 blocks, 3 kills) and Kevin Lancor (4 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks).

St. Viator d. Marian Catholic: The Lions produced an impressive road win in East Suburban Catholic Conference play as James Woods (17-for-19 hitting, 12 kills), Nathaniel Cull (9-9, 6 kills) and Max Hogan (9-9, 5 kills) led the attack.

Collin Cull directed the offense to the tune of 51-for-51 setting with 26 assists, Hogan had a team-best 2 blocks and Jonathan Meehan contributed 10 digs.

St. Viator improved to 23-8 overall and 5-1 in the ESCC.

Addison Trail d. Leyden: Addison Trail rallied for an 18-25, 25-21, 28-26 triumph over the Eagles in the West Suburban Gold match.

The Blazers (11-17, 3-2) were led by Jacob Grygo (21 assists, 5 digs, 2 kills, 1 ace), Alex Murillo (8 kills, 5 blocks), Kannon Nelms (5 kills, 3 blocks) and Arlind Rojba (12 digs).

Matt Jardine led Leyden with 9 kills.
