Two Huntley residents are in custody after police, while executing a search warrant, found a stolen vehicle in the garage of their home, according to a news release from the Huntley Police Department.
The two suspects were in police custody after the car crashed into a light pole. A handgun was found and area schools were placed on lockdown, according to the release.
Around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, police were notified of a vehicle stolen from Crystal Lake driving west on Reed Road toward Illinois Rt. 47, the release said.
Only 15 minutes later, the same vehicle was reported to have crashed into a light pole near the intersection of Chetwood and Boudreaux drives, and a male suspect was witnessed fleeing the scene, according to the release.
The vehicle was then taken to a home in the area of Buckingham Drive and brought into the garage, the release said.
Police tried to make contact with the residents, but they refused to exit the home, according to the release. Police then sought a search warrant.
While police were waiting for the warrant, a handgun was found at the scene of the crash, the release said.
While this was happening, area schools were notified and the Reed Road Campus and Learning Tree were placed on lockdown as a precaution, the release said.
The police received the warrant, searched the home to find the stolen car and took two suspects into custody, according to the release.
Once a thorough search of the area was completed the lockdowns were lifted, the release said.
The incident is still under investigation.
