Boys volleyball: Hersey goes unbeaten at St. Charles East

Hersey's boys volleyball team went 5-0 to take the championship in the tournament hosted by St. Charles East on Saturday.

The Huskies beat St. Charles East and Huntley in two-game sets.

They also defeated Plainfield South 19-25, 25-22, 25-18; Oswego 25-16, 11-25, 15-11 and West Chicago 26-28, 25-19, 18-16.

The Mid-Suburban East co-leaders improved to 8-1 overall.

Matt Hopkins (39 kills), Patrick O'Brien (30), Joe Nugent (23) and Jake Mailloux (21) led a deep hitting effort for the Huskies.

Hopkins also came up big on serve, finishing 53-for-55 with a team-best 10 aces.

Vince Reisel amassed 117 setting assists, libero Justin Hong had 87 digs and the blocking effort was led by Hopkins (20) and Nugent (16).
